Nine Nights of the Goddess - Meet the many forms of Shakti

by | Oct 8, 2026 | Kundalini Yoga, Mantra, New Moon, Sadhana

This Sunday marks the beginning of Navratri, the nine sacred nights dedicated to Devi, the Divine Mother.

Navratri means nine nights in Sanskrit. During this festival, the Goddess is honoured through prayer, mantra, meditation, rituals, music and dance.

At the heart of Navratri is Shakti, the Divine Feminine, the Creative Power that gives life to everything in existence.

One of the central stories of Navratri tells of the Goddess Durga and her battle with the demon Mahishasura. After nine nights of battle, Durga defeats the demon, symbolising the victory of divine power over the forces of ignorance and destruction.

During Navratri, nine forms of Durga, known as the Navadurga, are worshipped. Each day is dedicated to a different manifestation of the Divine Mother.

From Shailaputri, who represents stability and devotion, to Brahmacharini, the embodiment of spiritual discipline. From Kushmanda, associated with the creation of the universe, to Kalaratri, the fierce form of the Goddess who destroys evil and ignorance.

Together, the nine forms reveal the many expressions of Shakti, the power to create, nourish, protect and transform life.

This Saturday, on the New Moon, we begin Shakti Rising, our 11-day Kundalini Yoga mantra Sadhana, continuing throughout Navratri.

Every morning, we will chant Om Aim Hrim Klim Chamundaye Vichche, a mantra dedicated to the fierce power of the Goddess. We will also explore the nine forms of Durga and their spiritual significance.

Our central inquiry for this Sadhana is:

What are you ready to stop giving your energy to?
