Change - our tool for transformation
Life is a series of natural
and spontaneous change.
Don’t resist them;
that only creates sorrow.
Let reality be reality.
Let things flow naturally forward
in whatever way they like.
— Lao Tzu
We all know the expression 'go with the flow' all too well and intuitively we understand that resisting change doesn't help. As stated above change is natural, it’s a primary law of this universe, the foundation of our material existence actually. It's wise to realize that 'not resisting' does not equate 'not feeling' anything. Change affects us, always, one way or another, and feelings are a natural response.
Pretending not to feel anything is a way to bypass what's really going on beneath the surface that deserves our loving attention. This, what some people call 'spiritual bypassing', will in the long run always turn out to be something we need to face, whilst until we do, impacts our everyday experience of life.
So if 'not resisting' does not mean 'not feeling' or 'not being affected', what does it mean?
In our opinion it means: FEEL!
Feel it all, in all your cells, fibres, pores, in your whole being. Honor the feeling as the natural way to process life as the human being that you are currently. Allowing yourself to totally feel is the so called fire of transformation, it's energy moving, shifting to a new level of vibration, it's alchemy. Why would you resist that?
The problem often is that we have not been raised in a society that gives space to this alchemical proces of feeling and herein lies, the power of a spiritual practice. Your practice can become your altar on which you offer all your feelings, consciously creating space for them, fanning the flames of your own growth.
