Coriander Cooler: beat the heat with this refreshing summer sip

Coriander water is a refreshing and soothing drink, especially useful during the hot summer months. In Ayurveda, an ancient holistic health system, it is believed that our bodies are made up of three fundamental energies, or "doshas" - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. These doshas govern various aspects of our physical and mental well-being.
Imbalanced Pitta Dosha during Summer
Think of Pitta as the dosha associated with the elements of fire and water. It's like your body's inner fire, responsible for digestion, metabolism, and maintaining a balanced body temperature. When Pitta becomes imbalanced, it can lead to issues like excess heat, acidity, and skin irritations and feelings of frustration, anger, and irritability. In Summer season this dosha accumulates naturally and when you experience its imbalances like described, coriander water can be your cooling elixir that helps soothe the flames of Pitta. It's particularly helpful if you tend to get easily overheated or if you're struggling with digestive problems like heartburn or dehydration during the summer heat.
Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons of coriander seeds
- Quarter of a lime and extra to garnish (optional)
- 500ml water
Instructions
- Gently crush the coriander seeds to release their delightful flavours.
- Add the crushed coriander seeds to 0,5 liter of boiled water. If you'd like an extra burst of refreshing flavour, you can also squeeze the juice of a quarter of lime into the water.
- Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes, letting the coriander's cooling properties infuse into the water. The lime will add a zesty twist that complements the coriander's soothing effect.
- After simmering, cover it, and let it cool down. The lime-infused coriander water is now brimming with both cooling and revitalizing properties.
- To serve, strain out the coriander seeds, and if you're feeling fancy, garnish your glass with a slice of lime. You can enjoy this invigorating coriander and lime cooler throughout the day, either at room temperature or chilled. Note that in hot weather the water may become rancid quickly so either drink in time or keep your drink cool.
TIP: if you are traveling and have no possibility of boiling water you can also let the coriander seeds steep in water overnight (somewhere cool) and strain afterwards.
