Gayatri Mantra - Connect with the cosmos
We meditate upon the radiant Divine Light that illuminates the three worlds:
dense, subtle and causal
We contemplate the Supreme Knowledge
May it enlighten our minds and awaken our intuition
The Gayatri mantra origins can be found in the Rig-veda, the oldest scripture of the four Vedas dating back to around 1700 BC. It is said to reveal all the knowledge contained in the Vedas and therefore this mantra is also known as the ‘Mother of the Vedas’.
Connect with the Cosmos
Chanting the Gayatri mantra is a beautiful way to become aware of your connection with the subtle energies in the cosmos. The sound current illuminates your mind and intellect, opening you up to receive the highest wisdom and realise your True Nature. It is an invocation to the Supreme Light that dispels the darkness within and without.
In the Rig-veda the first line ‘Om Bhur Bhuvah Svah’ is not yet present, this was added later on as a means to understand our place in this creation and the different realms it consists of.
भूर् - Bhur - The physical plane, the physical world, the Earth
भुवः - Bhuva - The astral plane, the mental or psychic world
स्वः - Swah – The celestial plane, the spiritual world of the soul
Gayatri is the name for the meter (rhythm) in which these hymns were written. Each of the three lines contains 8 syllables in Sanskrit. The 24 syllables of the complete mantra are said to correlate to 24 energy centers in the human body that awaken the chakras and the Kundalini energy in the process of enlightenment.
